“I felt like a national heroine” – says Dina Yoffe, talking about the second prize she won over 40 years ago during the Chopin piano competition in Warsaw. “I remember Marszałkowska Street the day after the results were announced. When I left the hotel, everyone in the street was greeting me. Back then I didn't even know who Michael Jackson was, but now I can say that I felt just like him” – this Latvian pianist relates about her feelings from those days.
Today Dina Yoffe is one of the most important piano stars in the music world. Concerts with The Israel Philharmonic managed by Zubin Mehta or the NHK Symphony Orchestra conducted by Nevill Marriner or Sinfonia Varsovia led by Jacek Kasprzyk, all belong in the highlights of her achievements in her international career.
Coming from Riga, the pianist leads numerous master-classes. She's often a jury member in the most important piano competitions in Europe, the USA and Asia. In 2015 she returned to the International Chopin Piano Competition, but this time as an expert, judging the performances of the young musicians.
