The first piano concerto by Piotr Tchaikovsky was written in one passionate creative month. As his friend Nikolai Rubinstein said: “only two or three passages are worth preserving, the rest needs to be disposed of and rewritten”. The composer preserved his original notation, and which staged in Boston, it brought him huge success. “It is a struggle between two equal forces – a zestful orchestra contrasted against a small unobtrusive, yet intelligent competitor, who wins over in the end” – Tchaikovsky explained the principle of the concert.
This famous concert will be played by world renown virtuoso Nikolai Demidenko. His passion and artistic skill make him in demand for concerts all over the world. Demidenko has made many outstanding albums including i.a. pieces by Bach, Liszt, Skriabin, all the piano concertos by Prokofiev with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as recordings of 24 preludes by Chopin, which gained him a special MIDEM 2010 award for the best new recordings of music by the composer from Żelazowa Wola.
The pianist is famous for his almost perfect performances in Russian concert repertoires. Tchaikovsky's composition, performed by Demidenko, is undoubtedly one of the most important events of this artistic season at the Szczecin Philharmonic.
