“Owing to translating and developing “Bucolics” for a jazz quartet, the listeners received a rhythmically complex, fully energetic music characterised by sudden changes of mood and temperature” – Henning Bolte wrote in “All About Jazz”.
The emotions contained in Witold Lutosławski compositions as arranged by Piotr Orzechowski will sound out in the Chamber Hall of the Szczecin Philharmonic. The title “Bucolics” refers to the famous ancient bucolic tales by Virgil, with the piece comprising five piano miniatures based on folk melodies from the Krupie Region.
This interpretation sparks with energy, with huge contrasts, performed by the jazz ensemble, will surprise every listener. The original musical language dwells on the borderland between jazz and classical music. “Bucolics” performed by the High Definition Quartet is a great improvisation, developing the folk melody in an astounding and extraordinary way.
High Definition Quartet has quite successfully presented “Bucolics” at the main Polish festivals, as well as at the biggest jazz festival in India – Jazz Utsav. In addition they performed it on their tour of the USA and Canada, at the famous festivals Rochester Jazz and Edmonton Jazz, and in the prestigious Washington club, Bohemian Caverns. Now they will give a concert in the moon entourage at the Szczecin Philharmonic.
