Mateusz Smoczyński Quintet was made from "nuclear fission". Matusz Smoczyński is also the founder of the Atom String Quartet (resident artist at the Philharmonic in Szczecin). In the latest quintet project we will hear compositions by Mateusz and his brother John (piano), which – as the leader said – are the musical history of their lives.
In the world of jazz music (but also in the circles of other genres) we can learn a little bit about the class of the musicians by taking a look at the list of artists they have performed with. Mateusz Smoczyński has played with Zbigniew Namysłowski, Jarosław Śmietana, Tomasz Stańko, Krzesimir Dębski, Janusz Olejniczak, Adam Sztaba and Krzysztof Herdzin. Michał Miśkiewicz plays the drums in the quintet – he comes from a musically talented family (sister Dorota, father Henryk). Michał has also cooperated with Polish jazz legends: i.a. Tomasz Stańko, Jan “Ptaszyn” Wróblewski. Experienced guitarist Konrad Zemler has performed with Tomasz Szukalski, Adam Pierończyk, Janusz Muniak, Urszula Dudziak and Michał Urbaniak. Jan Smoczyński permanently cooperates with Michał Urbaniak, Aga Zaryan and Urszula Dudziak.
The musicians of the quintet are a great example of the next generation of jazz musicians. Jazz tradition, relay race of generations and the atomic bomb ...
