Supposedly there are many women playing jazz. But, as you can read on the portal
jazzarium.pl "not pianists, and secondly not such talented pianist as Agnieszka Derlak." The Aga Derlak Trio was formed in 2012 on the initiative of the leader. Apart from Agnieszka playing the piano, the trio is composed of bassist Tymon Trąbczyński and drummer Bartosz Szablowski (or Simon Madeja). Their musical friendship dates back to college days, studying at the breeding ground for jazz talents, i.e, the Academy of Music in Katowice.
They have already made themselves known in the world of festivals and competitions. As debutants, they were noticed during the Jazz Juniors (2013) and the National Review of Young Jazz and Blues Ensembles in Gdynia (in Polish Ogólnopolski Przegląd Młodych Zespołów Jazzowych i Bluesowych w Gdyni). They were also in the finals of the Czech Contest 2015. The frontwoman of the trio received an individual award at the Krokus Jazz Festival. During their performance, we can expect to hear many original compositions which are characterized by extraordinary vibrancy and unpredictability – it is the look of the young generation on traditional jazz.
The class of the ensemble is confirmed by opinions posted on professional web portals and in music magazines. Robert Ratajczak in his review of their second album “Healing” said: "interesting harmonic solutions combined with subtle lightness and finesse create a fascinating symbiosis of energy and virtuosity, while the unconventional compositions on the album determine its unique message."
