This South Korean artist is a laureate of the 2nd prize at the International Peter Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow in 2011. The success of this competition was undoubtedly important for her further career, although it is worth noting that Yeol Eum Son had earlier attracted attention by appearing as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic under Lorin Maazel (2004).
Her performances impress with precision, crystal clarity and grace. The scope of the repertoire is also remarkable: from Bach through Mozart's concertos to Gershwin's works. The places where she recently toured include: Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Bergen and Dresden Philharmonic, Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra and , Mariinsky Theater (under the baton of Valery Gergiev).
In the 2017/18 artistic season, Yeol Eum Son made her entrance in Birmingham performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21, and at London's Cadogan Hall with the famous Orchestra of the St. Martin Academy in the Fields (Mozart Concertos No. 8 and 21). Soon she will debut with the NOSPR in Katowice which whom she will perform a piano concert by George Gershwin.
Yeol Eum Son is currently studying at the Hochschule für Musik Theater und Medien in Hanover, Germany. Previously she studied with Cheng-Zong Yina, one of the most important pianists in China.
Well, pretty good for a student ...
