This is what they say about themselves: this undertaking is totally Scandinavian – three of us are Danish and the cellist is a Norwegian. In jokes, they call themselves 'modern Vikings', although they admit that they are 'a friendly quartet from the 'hood standing out only because of the long beards'.Within the decade of their activity, Danish String Quartet has achieved huge success: the ensemble received a proposal to reside at the prestigious Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, as well as receiving five awards at the International String Quartet Competition in London.
The highly technical and musical level, the joy of playing together, the huge applauses the ensemble's interpretations are greeted with, as well as a fresh approach to well-known repertoire, constitute the main characteristics of the Danish String Quartet in achieving international success. They give concerts all across Europe, and return to Germany and the UK quite often, where they perform at the Wigmore Hall on a regular basis. As the artists ensure themselves: 'There is so much fantastic music to get to know – so we hope to continue our journey together through life and music as a quartet sharing our passion with the greatest number of listeners possible.
