- Playing Christmas carols is something special – says Sebastian Karpiel Bułecka – as you do it once a year. It is a period of calm, reflection and coming closer to one's family. And we do not perform all the carols calmly as there is hot blood in our veins. So sometimes we have to include stomping.
'Zakopower plays Christmas carols' is a sentimental concert set strongly in the traditions of rocky Podhale, yet with a modern rock'n'roll approach. On stage, various instruments will play: traditional violin, bagpipes from Podhale, Slovakian shepherd's pipe, guitar, drums, percussion instruments, bass guitar, and a wind instrument section so typical of jazz. The concert program is filled with traditional carols from Podhale, but those who are expecting classical performances will be mistaken. Compositions performed in a traditional acoustic goral way are mixed with the energetic sound of reggae and samba.
The audience, together with Zakopower, will have the chance to sing popular carols such as 'When Christ is born' and 'They came to Bethlehem ', and also t listen to how people sing carols in Podhale nowadays. – Singing carols gives people enormous joy. These are beautiful melodies, beautiful compositions, moving lyrics – assures the band's leader Sebastian Karpiel-Bułecka.
