‘Polymorphia’ is the visionary composition by Krzysztof Penderecki from 50 years ago and it still preserves its freshness and secretiveness.
Ewa Szczecińska, radio journalist, compares Penderecki's piece to Hieronim Bosch's painting: ‘It is music transforming various states and emotions in a flexible way – the listener thinks he has touched something unnamed, mysterious, metaphysical. The entire piece works on the audience like Bosch's paintings: it turns out to be a tearing fresco translating into the sounds of various passions, fears, elations and sorrows’.
Rune Bergman and the Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra will not only present this unique composition by maestro Penderecki to music lovers, but take them along to meet with pieces by one of the leading composers of film music, John Williams. Writing music for over 100 films, he is one of Steven Spielberg’s favourite composers: ‘Jaws’, ‘Schindler's list’ and ‘Saving Private Ryan’. However, his greatest popularity was brought by the score he created for the ‘Star Wars’ series. Williams's success is mirrored in over 50 nominations for Oscars, winning 5 of these.
‘Scheherazade’ by Rimsky-Korsakov is one of the most pictorial pieces in the history of music literature. The tale “One thousand and one nights” is translated into the language of an orchestra, which the listeners then perceive through music.
