SWR Symphonieorchester is one of the most important music ambassadors of Germany. Their repertoire is focused on classical and romantic symphony music of the great masters, and also for composers of lesser known names.
Established in Stuttgart in 1945 by the American occupation authority, the ensemble is nowadays one of the most prestigious in the world. It performs regularly in Stuttgart giving over 80 concert each artistic season both for music lovers in the concert hall and those gathered in front of their radios. Simultaneously it appears on numerous stages both in Germany and abroad and makes guest appearances in festivals.
The Stuttgart orchestra has made quite a large number of studio productions for radio and TV. It has been awarded many a time for outstanding musical production. It won the ECHO Klassik in 2012, German Critics Award and the French distinction ‘Diapason d’or’. The musical meeting with SWR Symphonieorchester is a promise of a fantastic evening, during which the listeners will be immersed in a world of classical music.
The star of the evening will be Sol Gabetta who is extremely popular at the moment. The virtuoso's performance of the Edvard Elgar cello concerto is comparable to the historic interpretation of Jacqueline du Pré.
