Vołosi are the promise of an uncommon musical journey across the wilderness and routes of the Silesian Beskids, Podhale, Orava, the Żywiec Beskids, Lemkovina and non-Polish regions of the Carpathian.
The ensemble is made up of the classical academy musicians and brothers Krzysztof and Stanisław Lasoń playing the violin and cello, accompanied by real Gorals from the Silesian Beskids: Zbigniew Michałek -1st violin, Jan Kaczmarzyk – 2nd violin and Robert Waszut – double bass. They are a trio of talented self-taught musicians who bring to the ensemble a note of Carpathian energy, musical expression and a temperament typical for this region.
The musicians met in 2004 at the wedding of Krzysztofa Lasoń, where a real Goral band played. The friendship which originated during this event led them to create the ensemble Vołosi, which very quickly gained great popularity with world music enthusiasts. During their debut concert at the festival Nowa Tradycja (New Tradition) in 2010, the ensemble received all the statutory and non-statutory awards. The following year simply confirmed this success, their composition “Zmierzch” (eng. “Twilight”) received the Grand Prix for the best world music song in Europe at a competition organized by the European Broadcasting Union.
Vołosi have visited most of the European states. They have also performed in Georgia, Nepal, India and South Korea. They have shared the stage with pianist Janusz Olejniczak, Mamadou Diouf and Tibetan Monks. The Vołosi concert is mostly unique energy coming from the joy of making music and discovering the artistic nooks and crannies of the human soul.
