When Maxim Gorky heard the new symphony by Rachmaninov, he was absolutely euphoric: "How he can listen to silence! Utterly wonderful!". The work had confirmed the genius of the composer. The Adagio of this symphony is considered one of the finest examples of the Rachmaninov's style – a fragment of this work appeared in the latest Alejandro González Iñárritu's film "Birdman".
The magnificence of the Mendelssohn's concerto will be evoked by the Israeli violin virtuoso Shlomo Mintz. "He plays brilliantly. Let us rejoice that we – mortals – can listen to it. By him, the instrument is treated with precision and utmost sensitivity. Listeners lose their breath when they hear it" – thus of the violinist write critics from around the world.
