Ten biblical plagues, the parting of the Red Sea and sinking the Pharaoh's army are the subjects of Händel's oratorio "Israel in Egypt". Powerful choral parts account for two thirds of the music score; as Romain Rolland says, it is "the greatest choir epic that has ever existed".
For years the oratorio excerpt recorded in 1888 on Edison's phonograph was considered to be the oldest attempt to register the human voice – several thousand singers had participated in the recording.
Cappella Cracoviensis will undertake the performance of the monumental work by Händel. The singers along with the baroque orchestra specialise in music of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The musicians aim to interpret each work according to the principles of the era in which it was created.
