Johann Wolfgang Goethe wrote that while listening to a Mozart quartet, he had a feeling that he was listening to a lively conversation of four persons. After all, chamber music genres are based on reason and intelligence, they avoid the typical outer effect. A meeting with the Silesian String Quartet is an opportunity to listen to a very personal utterance, while being the best example of musical skill and art.
The Quartet originated in 1978 as a student band at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, and nowadays is one of the leading Polish representatives of chamber music. It's enough to quote some numbers: over 400 chamber pieces in their repertoire, 300 of which are literature of the 20th and 21st century. The Silesian musicians have performed over 100 first performances of string quartets both Polish and foreign (a significant amount is dedicated to them).
So far they have performed at over 1000 concert halls all over the world. This time accompanied by pianist Piotr Sałajczyk they will again perform in front of Szczecin audiences presenting piano quintets by Szymon Laksa and Mieczysław Weinberg – Jewish immigrants from Poland.
