Before us lies an extraordinary concert. On the stage in the Golden Hall, one of the leading orchestras in the country will perform for you – the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic. The ensemble was founded in 1945 and has achieved a very high artistic level thanks to collaboration with many outstanding conductors.
The NFM Wrocław Philharmonic will not come to us alone but accompanied by the excellent pianist and conductor in one person – Christian Zacharias. His albums with all the piano concertos by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart have won prestigious awards, such as the Diapason d'Or, Choc du Monde de la Musique, and the ECHO Klassik Award.
From Schumann's works, the first to be heard will be the Konzertstück for piano and orchestra in G major, Op. 92. Schumann sketched the Konzertstück (also known as Introduktion und Allegro appassionato) in just two days in September 1849. He completed the entire score a week later. It is a magical piece, reflecting Schumann's fascination with George Gordon Byron's poem Manfred.
The second Schumann piece this evening will be the famous Symphony No. 1 in B-flat major, Spring. It couldn't be otherwise when spring is already all around us. So, we will immerse ourselves in the vibrant orchestral palette of colours and spring images that this beautiful music will paint in our minds.
In this musical spring atmosphere, which the Wrocław orchestra under Maestro Zacharias's baton will create on our stage tonight, the concert's opening piece fits perfectly – Appalachian Spring by the American composer Aaron Copland (1900-1990). We invite you to join us in celebrating the arrival of spring in the Golden Hall of the Philharmonic.
