Not only does the Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra celebrate its anniversary this season, but one of the country's best orchestras – Sinfonia Varsovia, also marks its 40th year of existence. Onstage, this orchestra will accompany one of the world's most esteemed pianists, Piotr Anderszewski.
We will hear two piano concertos by two Viennese classical masters this evening in his interpretation. First, we will listen to Joseph Haydn's (1732-1809) Piano Concerto in D major Hob. XVIII/11. This piece, which became one of the audience's favourites during Haydn's lifetime, remains the most famous of his piano concertos to this day.
The following composition we will hear is Ludwig van Beethoven's (1770-1827) Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major, Op. 15. Thus, we will move from master to pupil, as Beethoven took lessons from the already elderly Haydn for some time. In this work, we find strikingly original colouristic and dramaturgical accents, such as unusual sforzandos and extraordinary changes of tonality, which give it a unique Beethovenian character.
And since we are talking about Viennese classics, we must mention Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). You will hear his famous Symphony No. 35 in D major, K. 385 "Haffner".
