This year marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of one of the greatest symphonists of all time – Anton Bruckner (1824-1896). We invite you to celebrate together with his extraordinary music. Our concert will feature the monumental Symphony No. 8 in C minor, the last of the completed symphonies by the great master.
The Eighth Symphony is a culmination of the composer's symphonic journey. As he wrote the final chords of the work's last movement, he reportedly exclaimed: Alleluja...! This Finale is the most significant moment in my life. It combines all the essential motifs from the preceding movements, creating a unique effect that the great German conductor Wilhelm Furtwängler described as "Bruckner's demons' struggle".
Bruckner's Symphony No. 8 is considered one of the peak achievements of Romantic symphonic music. It is a magnificent heir to the legacy of the great classical symphonists and a work that catapults both the orchestra and the listeners into an entirely new dimension of musical experiences. Bruckner gives the music a human and existential dimension. It is precisely in accepting doubt, darkness, and despair that the greatness of this work lies.
The Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra will perform this monumental and captivating symphony under the baton of the Artistic Director of the Philharmonic and its principal conductor, maestro Rune Bergmann.
