Ludwig van Beethoven. Even without a thorough study of his biography, we all are aware of his invaluable input to the history of music. His Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67 is widely known, even if the title does not ring a bell at first, and For Elise is one of the first compositions the young pianists ought to master. Though Beethoven started going deaf long before his 30th birthday, he did not stop composing until the end. He wrote to his brothers that art is the sole thing keeping him alive – and this triumph of will and talent can be heard in his compositions. E.T.A. Hoffmann, writer and composer, praised Beethoven’s music and claimed it is “an essence of the romanticism”.
Since the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth will be celebrated in 2020*, we invite you to start the celebration early with a strong, musical brew. It will be served by Marcin Masecki – Szczecin Philharmonic’s artist-in-residence in 2019/2020 season. And he is one amazing a-i-r! Masecki is one of the most versatile Polish artists with every project of his being unique and amazing. He often puts the classical music in a new contexts and Beethoven holds a special place in his heart. In 2015 Marcin Masecki released an album with the last three piano sonatas by the composer (by Lado ABC). Since the German master has been completely deaf by then, the pianist recorded the material with earplugs and special soundproof headphones. That must be love. Programme of this special, birthday concert was carefully chosen by Marcin Masecki, who will be joined on stage by the Lutosławski Quartet.
We invite you to the concerts by Marcin Masecki, artist-in-residence of the Philharmonic in Szczecin in 2019/2020 season. He will be joined by exceptional music guests. You can expect one of a kind experience at the crossroads of genres.
*Since to this date we are not able to clearly determine Ludwig van Beethoven’s date of birth (between 15th and 17th December 1770), we will celebrate few days before. To quote David Barber: ‘His mother probably knew, but no one asked’.
