As a concert instrument, Marimba has been building its position in concert halls in Europe and the world for only forty years. The source of its sound is wooden bars, most often made of rosewood. You can extract this sound by hitting with batons or using many innovative playing techniques. Then it is amplified by impressive resonators. Although we place this instrument in the last row of instruments on stage during concerts, Ewelina Hajda proves that it can compete with the entire orchestra. For the inquisitive ones, we will add that it does so not with loudness but with the palette of sound colours.
Ewelina Hajda is a graduate of the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp and the Conservatoire in Strasbourg, where she studied under the supervision of undisputed percussion masters. She is a winner of prizes in music competitions in Poland, Russia and Italy. Both her international career and her beginnings can be a source of many inspirations.
"When I was little, I did not want to be a doctor or a lawyer. I simply imagined myself on stage. I was not raised in an artistic family as my parents are economists. There was no CD to be found in the house. We rarely went to concerts or performances. I do not know if it was about a lack of money, it seems to me that these were just different times and priorities."
If you are looking for a new musical discovery, we warmly invite you to this concert. If this will be your first visit to our Philharmonic, the varied program will allow you to discern musical tastes! And if you have ever imagined yourself on stage – everything is possible!
