Christian Tetzlaff arouses admiration and recognition all over the world. In the present concert season of 2018/2019 he has been at the same time a resident artist of the Dresden Philharmonic and the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, he has performed with philharmonic orchestras in Munich and Helsinki, as well as with Orquesta Nacional de España, London Symphony Orchestra, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, The Cleveland Orchestra and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The full list of his performances includes about one hundred concerts a year!
To say that Christian Tetzlaff is one of the most often sought-after violinists is like saying nothing. But it is enough to mention that his family comes from... Szczecin and nothing else needs to be said!
As you will also be able to listen to the Brahms and Schumann duo yet in a chamber version, here we will talk only about Brahms. For information about Schumann, please move to the article entitled 'Philharmonics play chamber – a concert taking place in a month – on December 8th. Personally, we suggest going to both concerts. By offering our colleagues at the Ticket Office a kind smile, you can probably count on some Brahms-Schumann package.
If you hear somewhere that "Brahms is a mature romantic," please immediately reject the first associations. The only woman who he almost married, he addressed with these words: "I love you, but the chains are not for me." Classical in form, but innovative in the content (you can find this phrase in the description of the works of various composers, but in our opinion, it suits Brahms really well). He wrote the Violin Concerto in D major at the age of 45. He was no longer a lean, stiff blond who had charmed Klara Schumann, but he had already gained a good position as a great composer. Some maliciously claim that Brahms and Klara were having an affair. According to others, he was great because he did not write a single opera. We do not give faith to either (although we work at Philharmonic).
It so just happened that Brahms has grown to be the hero of this season. Our art director Rune Bergmann says that this music is simply good to listen to. However, we have some other suspicions. The conductor Hans von Bülow classified Brahms as one of the "Three Bs", next to Bach and Beethoven. The question of who should become the fourth "B" is still open.
