The Łukowski / Smoczyński / Niedziela / Dobrowolski Quartet was established in April 2014. It results from a meeting of four musicians at the legendary Jazz Camping Kalatówki 2013. The group consists of young instrumentalists, winners of many competitions, cooperating with outstanding artists of the Polish jazz scene. Their idea was to create an ensemble that would perform original, modern jazz music in a rare composition: saxophones, guitar, keyboards with a bass part played by synthesizers and drums.
Jazz has always been a fusion of styles and genres. In the 1960s, it was time to break new rules. Combining electronics with experimental sound, jazz with rock and crossing the designated boundaries became something that opened new doors to previously unknown jazz sounds. It was then that electric guitars, pianos and early synthesizers began to be used, which to this day are an excellent form of expression for contemporary jazz musicians.
Certainly, this group includes the LNSD QUARTET, i.e. the line-up: Szymon Łukowski (saxophones, bass clarinet, electronics), Gabriel Niedziela (guitars), Jan Smoczyński (Hammond, Rhodes, synthesizers, electronics) and Paweł Dobrowolski (drums). Each of them can boast a long list of musical achievements. Still, the combination of such eminent stage personalities into a quartet makes this evening a unique jazz feast that we will surely remember for a very long time.
At the concert, you will hear material from the quartet's debut album, which explores extended sound techniques, perfectly showing the incredible technique of each of the musicians.
