Stylishly dressed couples dancing through the trees on a beautiful summer afternoon? Who has not seen such a scene in movies or pictures? This time, however, we invite you not to the world of imagination but of sounds! Because dance suites became the leitmotif of the upcoming FeelHarmony Quintet concert. The Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra musicians will again be waiting for you in a unique place – Walerian Pawłowski Square.
We cannot deny ourselves a small historical outline. Dance accompanies us from the very beginning of human existence. The oldest painting depicting a man is about 10,000 years old. Dancing is a beautiful art and an attempt to convey the feelings and thoughts of the times in which the dancer lives. In antiquity, it was supposed to be a way to achieve harmony; in the Middle Ages – a form of entertainment, in the Renaissance – an aesthetic determinant, in the Baroque – an expression of splendour. And it was only sometime in the 18th and 19th centuries that the couples with which we started our story appear dancing in public places – parks and squares. Our era is no different. So next time you see contemporary dance, think about the truth about us it expresses?
Walerian Pawłowski, whose memory is celebrated by dedicating the Square and the concert to him, was born in Kielce. He spent his childhood and youth in Poznań, lived through the occupation with his mother in Kraków, where he also completed his musical studies. From 1954 until his death, he was associated with Szczecin. Walerian Pawłowski realized himself not only as a conductor and composer. He was the author of music for many radio plays and performances, stage pieces and books about music. He went down in history as the most amazing music popularizer in our city.
The program includes works by Philip Farkas and Denes Agay and well-known pieces, such as the suite from "The Nutcracker" by Tchaikovsky and the suite from "Porgy and Bess" by Gershwin. They all were chosen with extraordinary taste and will be performed by FeelHarmony Quintet with extraordinary virtuosity. The ensemble consists of five different personalities and five different instruments: flute, clarinet, oboe, French horn and bassoon. Being graduates of various music schools, the musicians met while playing in one orchestra. They have been creating a wind quintet since 2012. The ensemble performs classical music, 20th-century music and contemporary arrangements of popular music. The musicians also perform compositions written especially for the FeelHarmony Quintet. Some musicians are also teachers of music schools, including the Academy of Arts in Szczecin.
