The True Musicians Tournament is a competition and festival during which music filled with the truth of the performance expression and the truth of the source material resounds at the Philharmonic in Szczecin. The True Musicians Tournament is open to all performers – folk musicians, musicians, reenactors, but also contemporary interpreters, often combining traditional music with jazz, rock, electronics, experimental or classical music in an unconventional way.
The opening concert performed by the Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra will introduce us to the context of this year's edition of the festival, which we devote to the inhabitants of the Eastern Borderlands. The tournament will commemorate the problematic stories of Polish families living in the former Eastern Borderlands in connection with the cultivated and recreated musical tradition. The classical repertoire of the concert refers to the traditional culture of the eastern territories of the Second Polish Republic, creating a journey from the Vilnius region, through Nowogródek, to the Stanisławów Voivodeship. Romuald Twardowski and Roman Palester are composers from the former Borderlands.
The concert will end with the premiere performance of Mateusz Czarnowski's Piano Concerto, inspired by the work and activity of Edward Mojsak. Edward Mojsak, born in Belarus, settled in Western Pomerania after the Second World War. He was a multi-instrumentalist, composer, violin maker, music teacher and, above all, an animator of borderland culture in Western Pomerania. The National Folk Instrumentalists Tournament, which he organized, was the first specialized event in Western Pomerania in the post-war period, bringing together dulcimer players from Poland. In addition, Edward Mojsak wrote the only cymbal playing school in Poland, a guide to building cymbals and created a model of West Pomeranian cymbals. With his work and passion, he contributed significantly to the emergence of Pomerania on the map of Poland as a distinct ethnomusic region.
