Chantefleurs et chantefables is another piece by the Patron of the International Lutosławski Youth Orchestra, which will be presented in the final concert of this year's edition of the project. It is a series of soprano orchestral songs, written as one of the composer's last works. "Music is the domain of the ideal world," Witold Lutosławski once said. So let's go on a journey through this world with the best guides!
A mysterious plant blooming after dusk, a grasshopper, a meeting between a bull and a wheel, a singing bird, a turtle delighted with itself, a rose, a meeting between an alligator and an unexpected guest, a tit admiring angelica, a cloud of butterflies thirsty for broth. Here are sound scenes that change with many colours, moods, humour, and delight and admiration for the colourful world. A charming challenge for the students of the international orchestral academy, visiting our Philharmonic!
However, do not be fooled by pleasant sounds or humorous texts! Lutosławski always remained faithful to his ideals and never succumbed to the temptation to write works "for the public". Writing "for someone" is not only self-betrayal but also cheating. How can I know what exactly the other person will hear? A man, when he does not write what he would like to hear, what he needs – then he offers a counterfeit coin, offers something that he himself does not believe in, something that he himself does not want.
Chantefleurs et chantefables were included in the program together with Albert Roussel's Petit Suite and Andrzej Panufnik's Symphony. Thus, the International Lutosławski Youth Orchestra has the opportunity to present itself to you in all its glory – from non-classical impressions, through seductive sound scenes, to symmetrical and geometric music. Young musicians will once again try to explore Witold Lutosławski's ideas about the extraordinary beauty of orchestral music, and we will have the opportunity to follow in their footsteps once again.
