"Szymanowski" is a unique concert project devoted to Karol Szymanowski's work, considered, next to Fryderyk Chopin, as one of the most outstanding Polish composers. According to RGG, the context of "Szymanowski" is programmed and contemplative music addressed not only to experts in the composer's work but also to anyone who can find the beauty of melody and harmony without subjecting the material to scientific analysis. It consists of mazurkas, variations, preludes and other forms, the motifs of which have been intertwined with RGG compositional thread, creating a uniform image of a multi-layered work.
In the palette of a dozen or so recognizable Polish jazz piano trios, the RGG ensemble occupies a particular position. The formation, which was established in 2001, has been operating since 2013 and features Łukasz Ojdana (piano), Maciej Garbowski (double bass) and Krzysztof Gradziuk (percussion). They are all graduates of the Jazz Institute of the Academy of Music in Katowice. They are musicians with considerable experience, with achievements that are confirmed by awards, distinctions and scholarships. Their interests extend far beyond jazz and music in general; they are artists with a unique, rare awareness of what they do and what purpose they pursue. They are situated not only in jazz but also in contemporary improvised music of European origin.
RGG is a trio of perfectionists who treat a single sound, the way it is extracted and its sound context as a value in itself. The music of the formation escapes classifications because the band members avoid the mainstream, easy solutions and the obvious repertoire. Łukasz Ojdana, Maciej Garbowski and Krzysztof Gradziuk create their musical space vision with unprecedented consistency and stubbornness. The musicians do not throw all their trumps into the balance; they do not take part in jazz races, expecting us, the listeners, to add or interpret the rest ourselves.
