Shiva Feshareki is an experimental composer, radio host and turntablist. In Szczecin, she will present compositions prepared on request of the Philharmonic in Szczecin.
Composer, radio presenter, DJ, turntablist – Shiva Feshareki, originally from London, is an artist with exceptionally broad artistic horizons. She graduated in composition at the Royal College of Music in London, where she also defended her PhD in 2016. As a seventeen-year-old in 2004, she won the title of Young Composer of the Year at the BBC Proms Festival, and in 2017 she won the BASCA British Composer Award for Innovation.
As a turntablist, she gives solo performances and improvises with other musicians, mixing typically electronic music and various percussive sounds with minimalist and classical orchestral works.
In her work, the world of club music permeates the world of classical composition. She used her mixing skills, among others, in a project designed to recreate and premiere the song "Still Point" by the British composer and producer Daphne Oram, discovered after 70 years – a composition originally written for turntables, double orchestra and five microphones. Feshareki in her latest order for the BBC "Concert Orchestra" will also combine the sound of the symphony orchestra and turntables. The rhythms of club music can also be heard in her instrumental works, such as "O" from 2017.
