Marcin Masecki – artist-in-residence of the Philharmonic in Szczecin last season and Avi Avital – the most sought-after mandolin virtuoso in the world – will stand together on our stage to once again discover new dimensions of music, present a new look at old repertoires and confront the known with the unknown. These are the common denominators of the activities of these two outstanding musicians, whom we have had the opportunity to listen to separately in Szczecin so far. What will come out of their meeting?
Avi Avital is the first soloist to record exclusively with Deutsche Grammophon. His album "Vivaldi" (2015) received the ECHO Klassik award. Avi Avital's performances have electrified audiences around the world, including at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing, Wigmore and Royal Albert Hall in London, Berliner and Paris Philharmonic, Tonhalle Zurich, Palau de la Música Catalana Barcelona, Wiener Konzerthaus, Carnegie Hall New York and live broadcast from the Palais de Versailles. In addition, he performs with renowned orchestras such as The Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Tonhalle Zurich, Israel Philharmonic, Dresden Philharmonic and Orchester Symphonique de Montréal. He also closely collaborated with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Kent Nagano, Osmo Vänskä, Ton Koopman, and Giovanni Antonini.
Marcin Masecki is currently one of the most creative and original musicians in Poland. He is as passionate about classical music as jazz and avant-garde, and he does not shy away from romances with pop. Leader of the Professionalism group, director of the first edition of the Warsaw Entertainment Orchestra, leader of the Polonaise project – a wind orchestra that perversely deals with the tradition of polonaises. He feels equally comfortable performing Scott Joplin's ragtails and playing Ludwig van Beethoven sonatas in muffling headphones. He records original interpretations of works by Chopin and Bach, and at the same time, together with Jan Młynarski, he brings to life the Jazz Band Młynarski-Masecki, referring to Polish orchestras of the interwar period. Marcin Masecki regularly gives concerts, releases albums, composes and is involved in unconventional projects.
