Founded in Berlin in 1982, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin (Akademus for short) is now one of the world's best chamber orchestras, which play music based on historical sources with successes in this field.
Whether in New York, Tokyo, London or Buenos Aires, Akademus is a regular guest on the most important European and international concert stages. They regularly give concerts in the USA and Asia. They are a central pillar of Berlin's cultural life. Akademus performs about one hundred shows a year, ranging from chamber ensembles to symphony orchestras. They create unique interpretations under the changing direction of their concertmasters: Bernhard Forck, Georg Kallweit and Stephan Mai, and selected conductors.
Over one million records sold constitute an expression of the orchestra's international success. The recordings, which have been produced for Harmonia Mundi France since 1994, have won all major record trophies, including the Grammy Award, Diapason d'Or, Cannes Classical Award, Gramophone Award, Edison Award, MIDEM Classical Award and Choc de l'année.
Dorothee Oberlinger is one of the most respected masters of early music performance. In 1997, she won the Society of Recorder Players / Moeck Solo Recorder Competition. A year later, she made her debut at London's Wigmore Hall. She is a professor at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, where she is also the Institute of Early Music director.
