Greg Osby (born 1960) is an American saxophonist, composer and educator. Between 1980-83 he studied at the prestigious Berklee College of Music. After his graduation, Greg settled in New York for good. Over the last 25 years, he has become one of the pillars of American jazz. Valued for his thoughtful and innovative approach to composition and concerts, Osby is a four-time winner of the prestigious Jazz Journalists Award and a laureate of the Doris Duke Foundation award presented to composers.
Greg Osby's biography overlaps in a great part with the history of jazz music. Since 1980s he has been performing and recording with such stars as Herbie Hancock, Dizzy Gillespie, Jack DeJohnette, Steve Coleman, Jim Hall and Andrew Hill. He's given concerts in all the four corners of the world during the most important jazz festivals.
So far he has recorded fifteen albums with the legendary Blue Note Records. In 2008 Greg set up his own recording label “Inner Circle Music”, which supports the most gifted artists from all around the world. Osby is still looking for new talents, whom he helps in appearing on the jazz market.
The workshops will constitute a great supplement of the Monday concert of the Greg Osby Quartet.
