Witold Lutosławski, Grażyna Bacewicz and Aleksander Tansman are among the names of the greatest composers of the 20th century. Their fame, achievements, awards and international recognition, rightly reminded to us on many occasions, should find their embodiment in works that are strong, mighty and dignified. And yet, each of them, probably looking for an escape into peace, lightness and innocence, eagerly used the possibilities offered to the composer by the composition of the string orchestra. Although each in its own way.
Lutosławski is a great jeweler and chisel maker – a cool but reliable master. (…) A small suite by the same author is a masterpiece of folkloristic stylization, enjoying well-deserved recognition and popularity - noted Stefan Kisielewski (and he was invariably right). Lutosławski himself qualified it as "applied music", that is, available to everyone who wants to learn music, perform it themselves or listen to it for pure enjoyment.
Kisielewski did not hesitate to review the Concerto for String Orchestra: With a clear conscience it can be said that the honor of Polish composers was saved this time by "baba" – Grażyna Bacewicz. Probably the inborn class did not allow Kisielewski to save, as a result of which this honor was previously threatened. We finally felt a "bloody piece" of healthy and tasty music, written with creative potential – truly masculine.
Tansman's divertimento escaped the sharp pen of Kisielewski, but we will quote the composer's own statement.
For me, the avant-garde becomes interesting only when it grows out of it. Albert Einstein, when I asked him once how he recognizes an outstanding work of art, replied: the value of a work of art is what remains when we discard topicality.
Perhaps this sentence will be the best key to the concert to which we cordially invite you.
