The first Polish film was made in 1908, but the interwar period is the true flowering of this colorful world – although it is only recorded on black and white film. We would like to invite you to a concert with the greatest cinema hits of that time. They were moved from the theater, vaudeville and revue to the freshly made sound films!
The interwar period is a short period in the history of Poland, which made an extremely colorful appearance in our history. The young state and the newly reunited society were bursting with various manifestations of social, political and cultural life. But are we so different from those who lived 100 years ago? Since we are in the 1920s again, we decided to reach for the pre-war Polish hits and look for the mirror image of present times!
The lyrics of the songs were inspired by countless anecdotes, bon motes, funny adventures and amazing events that took place during this colorful period. Adolf Dymsza, the most popular actor at the time, when asked what he would like to do in another life, replied: “I would sell cold but very cold soda water and ice cream in the Sahara desert. First-class business! ”. When it comes to songs and dance events, the reports from marathons sound like a fantasy!, The dance marathons in which the winners was the couple who stayed on the dance floor the longest often spending many hours without a break, were very popular all over Poland.
Not only the world of culture provided inspiration for poems and song lyrics. In 1926, during the deliberations of the budget committee in the Sejm, there were discussions about protection for female artists ("It is different to support art, and something else to support actresses") and too short skirts of Polish students. On the other hand, at the local government level, more practical topics for discussion were selected. In 1933, the City Council of Łódź held a discussion on the expenses of the magistrate. It has been established beyond reasonable doubt that the tax department uses ten kilograms of sugar per kilogram of tea, and sixteen kilograms per kilogram of tea at the social welfare department. The record holders consumed forty kilos!
As you can see, you could easily find a cold bastard, arrange a nine o'clock date, arouse a discussion with sex appeal or hide an excess of sweets! We would like to invite you to get to know this extremely colorful reality, portrayed in the most popular hits of the past. Although… sometimes it seems to us that they reflect the world not only 100 years ago, but also contemporary to us!
Feel more than invited to join the broadcast of the concert on May 1st at 7.00 p.m. on our
