The Clarinet Festival is an interesting proposition for everyone who wants to discover the beauty of an instrument that does not often appear as a solo instrument with an orchestra. The opportunity will be the arrival of Sharon Kam – the current leading clarinet player in the world. Among the many concerts, prizes and achievements, he has also premiered the Clarinet concert of Krzysztof Penderecki.
Bernhard Henrik Crusell is highly valued by clarinettists for elegant and musically satisfying pieces composed for clarinet. He became interested in it during his studies, which he spent in the army band in Sveaborg. At the age of 16, Crusell moved to the royal court orchestra in Stockholm, where he later became a clarinettist and then served as director. And so he became for clarinettists as important as Locatelli for violinists.
Twenty years after the creation of Crusell's clarinet concerto, Karol Kurpiński was travelling for eight months throughout Europe. The journey’s purpose was to learn about the functioning of various opera theatres to be able to propose solutions for the planned modernization of the Warsaw theatre. In short, the story looks as if he stopped in Paris, where it was raining terribly, so instead of walking around the city, he sat down and wrote a clarinet concerto. For more stories of this type, we invite you to read Kurpiński's dailies.
We have written a lot about travelling, we have also mentioned Schumann once, the romantic ideas too, so you can write a few sentences about the "Rhenish Symphony’. The malicious say that Schumann was a good composer, but for piano, not for orchestra. We think his symphonies are great in formal, thematic and harmonic terms, and secondly, they were loved by Brahms and Tchaikovsky. And we side here with Brahms and Tchaikovsky what you can see in the programs of our concerts. We also side with Schumann.
