Piotr Zimnik - double bass - (Berliner Philharmoniker)
In 2021, Piotr Zimnik joined one of the best symphony orchestras in the world – the Berlin Philharmonic, but he also gained orchestral experience at the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, where he was the deputy double bass group leader.
He has also collaborated with The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, Deutsche Oper, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Gürzenich-Orchester Köln and the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice (NOSPR). Piotr Zimnik is also an active soloist and chamber musician, a permanent collaborator of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, with which he regularly performs on the most important stages worldwide.
He started his adventure with the double bass at the Frederic Chopin Music High School in Bytom. After that, he mastered his skills at the Leoš Janaček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno, where Miloslav Jelink was his mentor. Piotr Zimnik was also a Karajan Academy der Berliner Philharmoniker scholarship holder and perfected his skills at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy in Berlin.
He is a laureate of numerous awards at prestigious music competitions: 1st prize at the International Double Bass Competition (Brno 2012), 3rd prize at the 7th Johannes Matthias Sperger International Wettbewerb in Andernach (Germany 2012) and 1st prize at the Yamaha Competition (Brno 2016).
