We are announcing the 12th edition of the International Lutosławski Youth Orchestra
We invite young musicians from all countries of the world to Szczecin (north-west Poland) for the next edition of our orchestral workshop. In 2024, the workshop will take place between August 18 and 24, of course, at the Szczecin Philharmonic, which has been ILYO's home for ten years. What are we preparing for you this year?
First, some information for those of you who are here for the first time. International Lutosławski Youth Orchestra (ILYO) are completely free orchestral workshops for young musicians who want to gain experience in playing in a symphony orchestra and develop their musical skills. The workshops last a week and consist of classes with tutors of individual instrumental sections and rehearsals with an experienced conductor and soloist. The workshops culminate in symphonic concerts with real audiences, one of which is broadcast live on YouTube. More information about ILYO orchestral workshops can be found in the ABOUT PROJECT tab, and we have collected answers to the most common questions in the FAQ tab.
As in 2022 and 2023, the International Lutosławski Youth Orchestra will play two concerts to conclude our orchestral workshop. One of them will traditionally take place at the Szczecin Philharmonic, and the second? At the moment, we can't reveal, but we will inform you very soon.
But it is not everything. The repertoire of this year's edition of ILYO is also being refreshed. As usual, it will include a piece by our patron – Witold Lutosławski, but for the first time in many years ILYO will also play a great 19th century symphony. Details will be posted soon on our social media and on our website.
A new feature is that now you will also have the possibility to apply for the position of concertmaster (violins). To do this, you will need to record an additional piece. Anticipating the questions, we would like to add that candidates who applied for the position of concertmaster and were not selected will be considered as regular candidates for ILYO.
As always, we are putting together a team of wonderful tutors who, during classes in instrumental sections, will share with the participants of our orchestral workshops valuable practical knowledge acquired during many years of performing in renowned orchestras. We will successively publish the profiles of this year's tutors on our website in the "Tutors" tab and on social media.
We will accept applications for the 12th edition of the International Lutosławski Youth Orchestra workshops from March 1 to April 30 (23:59 CET). As in last year's edition of the project, you will be required to record a video of the mandatory pieces and submit them using the online form on our website. All information on how to apply, the list of required pieces and sheet music will be posted soon on our website. We will also inform you about this fact on our social media. So remember to join our followers on Facebook and Instagram.
See you in August at the Szczecin Philharmonic.
