The mother – Lilya Zilberstein – began it all. Victory at the Ferruccio Busoni competition in 1987 opened the doors of European concert halls and festivals to the young artist from Russia – these included the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. Then there were contracts with prestigious record labels (Deutsche Gramofon, EMI) and hundreds of concerts, e.g. at the Berlin Philharmonic.
In the meantime, Madam Zilberstein married the renowned trumpeter Alexander Gerzenberg, with whom she had two sons, Anton and Daniel. They grew up in a house full of music, and also in a humanistic atmosphere arousing curiosity towards other fields of art and science. As a result, Daniel at the age of 20 spoke six languages, wrote poems and attended acting classes. Anton's extra-musical interests at the age of 15 concerned issues such as volcanoes and floristry. Today they both are mature awarded artists ("Jugend musiziert", "Steinway").
Anton and Daniel often performed as a duet, a family specialty – Lilya Zilberstein's mom played for many years in a duet with Martha Argerich, which allowed her to artfully pass this art to her sons. Together with her mother, they also play for three pairs of hands, which for the first time took place publicly in 2009 at "Progetto Martha Argerich" (a music festival with the piano in the main role). In the final of Wednesday's concert there will be a special composition by Rachmaninov, intended for performance by three pianists.
