This unique album with compositions by outstanding Polish artists constitutes a symbolic tribute to the Philharmonic’s patron on his 140th birthday.
The record was created from two recording sessions in June and August of 2016. The Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra conducted by Łukasz Borowicz – a laureate of the Polityka Passport Award (an annual prestigious Polish award presented by the weekly magazine Polityka since 1993), together with the remarkable violinist of Szczecin origin, Bartłomiej Nizioł, met in the golden hall of the Szczecin Philharmonic and performed pieces by Mieczysław Karłowicz. During the first session, “Violin Concerto in A Major” op.8 and “The Sorrowful Tale” op.13 were recorded, while during the second the musicians played “Lithuanian Rhapsody” op.11.
Hein Laabs from Berlin, a professional sound engineer, supervised the whole recording process. He cooperates with one of the most renowned record labels, Deutsche Grammophon, on an everyday basis. Mr Laabs specialises in making recordings of classic music. He has cooperated with Łukasz Borowicz before.
