SOUNDLAB is the philharmonic laboratory of electronic music. During the opening concert we will get to know the two faces of the pianist labelled “piano hooligan”. The first part taking place in the symphony hall includes; “Study for one cymbal stroke” by Włodzimierz Kotoński, „Symphony no. 1” (1951) by Henri Dutilleux, and the original Free Piano Concerto ISLAND NATION. The second part will begin at 21:00 and will feature a live club set in the lobby of the Philharmonic. There is one ticket for both events which can be purchased at the ticket office of the philharmonic and online.
Francesco Tristano was born in 1981 and discovered the piano five years later. He gave his first concert at the age of 13, featuring his own compositions. He has performed with the most outstanding and accomplished orchestras in Moscow, Berlin and Hanoi. Even back then he had broken from classical convention, experimenting with the sound of piano and strings. Living in New York opened his ears to electronic and club music. To date he has released 12 albums. In his vast range of interests reside Bach’s Goldberg Variations, Frescobaldi’s baroque compositions, and techno, which he arranges for the piano. What is interesting is that Tristiano does not feel he belongs to just either of the two worlds of classical music or the DJ universe.
